One of the most innovative, functional new styles in fleece this fall is the Face Cover Gaiter Hoodie. This adult-size pullover sweat shirt is composed of 8-ounce 55% cotton/45% polyester, but it comes with a twist. A two-ply cotton gaiter, also known as a buff, is sewn into the neck seam with Lycra binding at the edge to create a soft and comfortable feel.
What’s so great about this built-in gaiter is it serves so many purposes. While it is not intended for medical professionals and comes with no claim of being able to prevent or protect from any form of illness, studies have been conducted that show that multi-ply cotton is a superior fabric over polyester for gaiters.
With the gaiter built in, the wearer does not have to worry about forgetting a mask in situations that require one. It has a loose comfortable fit, which may make the user more willing to wear a face covering in group situations such as team sports, outdoor concerts and shows, holiday festivals or even walking around the neighborhood. Certainly this added level of precaution cannot hurt and may be a welcome relief from a tighter-fitting mask.
In addition to its COVID functionality, it’s also ideal for cold and windy weather as face protection. Any time the wearer might be standing outside for a period of time, it can block wind and add an extra degree of warmth. Pulled down, it also functions as a neck scarf.
It’s a functional choice for skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing, snowshoeing, hiking, ice skating and even running in cold weather.
The hood can be worn alone when the face covering is not required, and the gaiter can be pulled up and worn without the hood.
From a decorating standpoint, the front of the face covering is a great place to put a logo or emblem. Whether it be for promotional purposes or simply decorative, any graphic in that location will be impossible to be missed. Emblazoned with a school or an organization’s logo, it turns into an effective bulletin board.
